The Big Valley The Big Valley is the story of the Barkley family, and their ranch near the town of Stockton in 1870s California. Stockton was a main stop on the newly opened Transcontinental Railroad, and an important town. The Barkleys - widowed matriarch Victoria, sons Jarrod (a lawyer), Nick, Eugene (mostly absent and unlamented), daughter Audra, and Heath ( the illegitimate son of Victoria's late husband, accepted into the family) - were important people in Stockton.

Bonanza Not sure that this one needs much introduction! Bonanza chronicled the lives of the Cartwright family of the Ponderosa ranch in Nevada, near Virginia City, headed by patriarch Ben Cartwright. He had three sons, each by a different wife: the eldest was Adam; the second was Hoss ; the youngest was Little Joe. According to Wikipedia, "Bonanza" was considered an atypical western for its time, as the core of the storylines dealt with Ben and his three dissimilar sons, how they cared for one another, their neighbours and their land.

Magnificent Seven Not the original 1960's movie (itself a remake of a Japanese film The Seven Samuari) but the Magnificent Seven TV series. Seven men bring the law (of sorts) to a western town. To quote Wiki: one infamous gunslinger; an ex-bounty hunter; a smooth-talking con artist; a young eastern amateur; a womanizing gunman; a freed slave turned healer; and a former preacher seeking penance.
